driver awareness course dilemma

Do 1 course and take a set of points, 3 for an SP30 won't impact your insurance.
When ever I have point I am more careful for 3 years till they drop off. Probably get caught about every 10 years on average.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Take the local course and the points for Dorset.
If you treat the course as more than "a way to avoid points" you may even find that, even with the aggressive Transit, the Dorset points would have been avoidable - the limit signs are visible from a good 400m away either side of Winterbourne and they even have count-down stripes on the road. So the clues were there to be able to slow gently before the change of limit - especially if someone's up your chuff in a van!
That's not a dig, btw, but it's exactly the sort of thing that's easy to forget over a long and clean driving career and the course is there to remind you of.
So, one course, one set of points, and another 30 years before you forget again

There's always the danger you could pick up points on the way back to Dorset if you opt for the course down there - something to keep in mind!0

Ha, good point.
On the drive back from Dorset, I lost count of the number of times I saw the camera flashing for people heading south through the variable limit 60mph signs around spaghetti junction.0 -
Thanks.
So it's still a dilemma. keep my license clean but pay a £110 course fee + 600 miles petrol + probable nights stay in a hotel and day off work , or £100 fine and 3pts.
Take the 3 points, it'll have no effect. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hindsight is brilliant vision I know, but I deal with tailgaters in any vehicle by going slower. And slower, softly double-tapping the brake pedal every time. Eventually they either rage and have a heart attack, or stop it.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Yep, and on that stretch of road there's a good chance they'll just pass - not really safe to with the village coming up but since when did safety bother tailgaters?
Then they'll be the ones with the fine & points
