The thing I find disconcerting about being asked for information taken from credit files is that you have no idea beforehand what you might be asked. So, other than having credit files (plural) open online when you ring (do these things time-out if not accessed?), you can't be sure you will be able to answer the questions. I've heard of being asked about opening dates of bank accounts and credit cards, and CC credit limits, so I have compiled a list of these, but what else?
I'm all for security, but totally against obfuscation. If their security requires username, password, security number, card reader, code sent to mobile, or whatever, so be it. But they should say in advance (as do most institutions) what will be required. Randomly introducing other obscure requirements doesn't significantly improve security (fraudsters quickly get used to such things and don't have to deal with blocked accounts - they just move on), but does make things significantly more difficult and stressful for genuine customers (who need such things rarely).0 -
I posted the original question. Thank you all.
It is strangely (sadly) gratifying to learn that others suffer in a similar way.
The questions are pure fantasy.
For example they said:- We have 5 current account numbers here (from experian) we will now give you the last 4 numbers of one of these 5, you tell us which bank and account name.
Sounds simple - yes.
But in fact I only have 2 current accounts and would obviously recognise either of them.
The numbers they gave were not either. Fantasy. Immediately locked out.
I ask for supervisor. He says this may be relating to accounts that are not active. in fact could date back years. Fantasy.
Yes we have had accounts elsewhere in the past, sometimes for offers or insurance or other reasons. I do not now have knowledge of all accounts we have held (ever perhaps) and immediatly recognise the account by the last 4 digits.
SAINSBURY are complicit in this vandalism. They accused us of security breach based on fantasy information supplied (without my data approval I may add) by a third party I have no knowledge of.
SAINSBURY wipe their hands clean and lock the accont, happily causing stress and anxiety.
SAINSBURY could (like a professional caring bank) use the secure information provided on registration, use text message to secure phone validation or use knowledge of historical account activity.
If you want to pay money in they are good.
But if you need to access your money and do not measure up to fantasy questions (once) you are locked.
My mission now. Simple. Tell the world the facts. Let people determine if they want to use SAINBURY Bank. Many people enjoy fantasy football, fantasy films and books. Why not fantasy pivotal security banking questions?
Tell your friends, reccomend them to your enamies.
I have never had such distgusting service from a Bank in my entire long life.0 -

For another example of just how bad Sainsbury's Bank appears to be, see post #11 on this (slightly hijacked) thread:

I only wish I could close it.0

I love this ...
Quotes from #15
"....here's another thread around here somewhere about how bad Sainsbury's Bank is. To me, this sort of thing just confirms it. It's almost as if they're trying to run down the operation and turn customers away."
Thank you.0
