Garden bordered by BT land

We’ve been in this house 2 years and have a small garden which adjoins a fairly narrow strip of BT land on which is placed a large hut at one end presumably filled with equipment as its visited very frequently. Unfortunately the boundary fence Is made of very cheap wire netting and is in a very poor state. Can anyone advise how we contact BT about this please? Also any thoughts on how to find out about our chances of renting/buying a small slice of this land from them? Thanks in advance.

    Phone book, perhaps? ;)

They'll probably have a property division or similar. Try contacting them via their website and you should be pointed to the right department.

Be aware that they may not have any obligation to maintain the fence, simply to mark the boundary. That would be the case on many domestic boundaries. If the fence does that, no matter how scruffy or dilapidated, they may have met that obligation. If you have a dog, it would be up to you to ensure the boundary is secure. There's nothing stopping you erecting your own fence alongside theirs, jut inside the boundary if they don't want to sell any land to you or to do anything to their fence.

Thanks for that helpful reply. I’ve been unable to find contact details on line, hence the post. Perhaps I’m just not looking in the right place!

It's openreach responsibility but as pointed out if it's serviceable then they won't replace

If it is just the aesthetic of it, then what is stopping you putting up a nicer looking barrier just inside your edge of the boundary?

Thank you, yes that’s what we intend to do, it’s just that the fencing is on the verge of collapse and thought we should let them know!
