Ask the solicitors how much to amend it, as it'll be less than starting from scratch & safer than trying anything "homemade". It also lets them know you do not want the current will to stand.0 -
Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions.
I have spoken to the original solicitors regarding amending/changing my current will but they will still require payment as thought it would be a completely new will.
I think this is something approaching a rip off - changing the names of the executors and the two main beneficiaries.
They wont be getting my business and I will look elsewhere. There is a local person who is recommended as a will writing service and that is an option I'm considering,0 -
Not sure how old you are but many charities participate in 'will week' and other offers throughout the year.
It means any participating solicitors can do a new will for you for free as they bill the charity; the charity would like to receive a token gift written into your will but know not everyone does.
I would suggest you look into that or phone around all the law firms close to you and ask for a quote. The prices vary from £100 to a few thousand depending on what you want written into it and tax planning advice.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -

I would strongly recommend you do not use a will writing 'service' and I think the vast majority of posters on here would agree.
A basic will, even if you don't use the free will service mentioned above shouldn't cost more than a few hundred quid from a solicitor. If they want to charge more than that then find another solicitor......0 -
Thanks again for advice and comments.
A couple of points - there was no solicitor anywhere near me offering their service during March for the make a will month.
I have already asked the original solicitor how much the 2 straightforward amendments I want to make would cost and they would charge the same as for a completely new will.
I am struggling to understand what the problem would be with a will writing service or an online will service if it was drawn up exactly as my existing will apart the two amendments, to the beneficiaries and the executors? Yorkshireman?
Finally I've found a local solicitor who will provide me with a new will, with just the changes in question for £100+vat. This is even cheaper than using a will writing service.

One issue with distroying a will it is potentially the only record that previous wills have been revoked.0
