...my mother of 84 years...
...She has recently allowed a male friend, who is seven years younger than herself to move in...
That's fantastic news.
The same thing happened to my mum, she found a new partner in the last few years of her life. They spent all of the money that she'd saved over her lifetime on holidays, fancy meals, etc. leaving nothing to inherit.
I couldn't have been happier for her.0 -
You and your sister may very well have a capital gains liability on the sale of the house if it has increased in value over your annual allowances.0

Lets hope she doesn't need care because your attempt to cheat tax payers will likely failAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

Thank goodness you posted that, as I've been struggling to see where the children in this thread are showing even the slightest respect for their elders. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

But what if she then went on to live 20 more years penniless with him long gone or long dead? Or did have to go into care with no money for a good home?
How many have blown it all thinking they were dying from cancer... and then live 10,20,30 years, Or men who thought they would never make it past 75 blow it all and went on struggling for 20 more years.0 -

OK, that did happen to some people who didn't realise how technology would extend the life expectancy of AIDS patients.
They're two different problems but they're not comparable. Some problems are good ones to have. Bad breath's better than no breath at all.
And if the ill have to worry that they won't be provided for after working hard all their lives they need to get down to the voting booths and turning up at every possible political meeting and letting our future political masters know we've got their number and they'll take our vote for granted at their peril.
Anyhoo, let's end this diversion and let people figure out how to optimise the OP's issue. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
