    If I were them I would be researching this to death(pun intended) and seeking professional advise as needed.

    Once away from the basics of traditional ownership and savings there is a lot more knowledge needed to extract the best from the assets while living and in death situations.
    Surprised the father has not got the basics documented and communicated to family.

    Very common in rural communities. As described above.Even though agricultural land is mainly exempt from IHT there are big potential savings for future generations.
