Car tax due to early?

I paid for it on 8th May 2018 for a year. Now I've been sent a letter it is due on the 1st of May as well as it saying online that it is due then. Anyone know why this has happened?

    Because VED has always been due from the 1st of the month in which it was paid the previous year. Always.

    When you paid for the tax last May it covered the whole month and is now due on the 1st. Even if you had paid it on 30th May last year, it would still be due for renewal in 1st May this year.
