Brand new TV smashed!

Hi everyone,

So I bought a new TV from Amazon a couple of weeks ago before I went on holiday (so I didn't have to deal with it when I got back!) I set it up exactly as per the instructions.

It was fine for a few days, then I went on holiday for a week and I have gotten back and it has flopped forward off the stand and smashed. It is completely smashed and only the bottom left corner works.

Obviously I am not happy about it. Do I have any way of getting my money back from warrantee or rubbish stand design, or is it my own fault and I just have to buy a new one when I have the money?

Your fault , claim on your contents insurance

It would only fall off the stand if incorrectly installed , screws not in correctly etc

How did it fall off? Not attached properly, stand fell over?

Do you mean it has actually fell over and left the stand on the tv table?

If so you did not assemble it properly

Unless the stand failed somehow then I don't see you getting a refund/replacement. Claim from your house insurance.

Could be anyone's guess but without a camera that was setup pointing at the TV we will never know.

Im inclined. To agree that it wasn't set up correctly.

Hi Minskette and welcome to MSE Forums.

Did the screen fall away from the stand, or did the whole assembly tip forward and fall? I know what a devilish job it is to fit these together, as I had to get my largest grandson to help me with mine. I also know that they are easy to assemble incorrectly, because we had to disassemble it part way through and start again. Either way, I suspect that a mistake was made in assembly.

As neilmcl says, best to claim on your home insurance. Take great care how you word the claim though. Simply class it as an accident. ;)

If it actually flopped forward off the stand that would suggest the stand was not fitted correctly.

We won't know for sure until and unless the OP replies, but it certainly looks that way.

My tv is almost ten years old and has been sat on its stand for all of that time.

It has stayed solid in the face of my wannabe monorail cat who is close to two stone weight. She generally lasts two minutes before falling off... always good for a giggle.

It has also survived my other cat who sleeps on it monorail cat style with her paws hanging down in front of the screen. That cat likes it so much I have a plastic lunchbox taped to the top of the tv because her chin was regularly either turning it off or blaring the sound at full volume.

So IME those stands are pretty bombproof. I'm inclined to think you didn't attach the tv to the stand properly.

So sorry for you, OP, total sickener. I hope the holiday was good, at least.
