ncp photo-shopped evidence

Hi,
First-timer here. I've looked at other threads but can't find anything on this particular topic.
I've just received a notice to keeper from NCP of an unpaid parking fine from a town that I've never been to in my life. I've checked the online evidence and it is clearly not my car and the number plates have been (rather crudely) photo-shopped onto the photographs of someone else's (similar looking) car.
Is this a common occurrence?
I shall, of course, appeal but can anyone direct me towards any specific advice that already exists on another age or thread? (E.g. can I request compensation for a clearly fraudulent claim?)
Thanks in advance

It’s simply an ANPR camera mis-read. One of the digits of the VRM has been incorrectly recorded/read and mistaken for yours.
The superimposed VRM plate is how all ANPR camera generated NtKs are issued.I shall, of course, appeal but can anyone direct me towards any specific advice that already exists on another age or thread? (E.g. can I request compensation for a clearly fraudulent claim?)
Read these cases from Parking Prankster to get an idea of against what to issue your LoC.

Important - in parallel with the above, you must crack on with your standard appeal to NCP as per the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1.
In due course you can also raise a stink with the DVLA for NCP accessing your personal data when they had no ‘reasonable cause’ (words to use’). The inaccuracy of their Fisher-Price cameras is no excuse. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You can also complain to your MPthey are well aware of the MO of these companies and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these private parking companies. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, and persistent offenders denied access. Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers.
Until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Complain to the landowner, the BPA, the DVLA, and your MP that the scammers have obtained and misused your personal data.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks0

Is it a completely different make/model of car?
If so....
Dear Ncp re parking charge notice ####
I have good reason to believe that you have accessed my personal data/details from the DVLA without a just reason.
You appear to have used an entirely automated system, without performing any reasonable checks on the accuracy of the system.
You must now cancel this parking charge notice with immediate effect.
I intend to complain to the DVLA and report this data breach / breach of GDPR to the ICO, likewise you are also required to inform the ICO of your own breach.
For your information my vehicle was not at the location your automated system state our was at the time.
If they reject, then you should have good grounds to take it further, if you get a popla number , tell popla that the cameras are misreading and any further rejection/so called debt recovery stuff will add more fuel to the data breach.
They should, if reasonable (as if) cancel
You should also complain to the DVLA and ICOFrom the Plain Language Commission:
