Sharing an Android Calendar

A friend want me to be able to see his Android calendar, yet I'm finding it difficult to discover the steps involved.
He says there's no "share" option within the calendar, but I don't have Android to check.
I would only need "view" access, and I don't want to share anything back with him. It can be shared either to my gmail calendar, or to my iPhone, whichever is easier.
Any ideas?

AFAIK the app just uses whatever calendar it's logged into (usually Google), he would need to share that via the website first.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

You can’t share an ‘android’ calendar ... you need to share it from the cloud service it’s synced to. E.g. gmail, outlook.com etc.0

as rumrat states if referring to the google calendar they have to share it via the calendar.google.com webpage"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

OK we've now shared the Google Calendar which is synced with the phone calendar.
Only problem is I can't see any of his appointments. As a test he put in an appointment on the Google Calendar which I saw right away, then one on the phone, which I've yet to see. So it seems at the moment syncing is only working from google to phone, but not the other way.0 -
When he adds an appointment on the phone did he add it to 'My Calendar'? He needs to select his email address instead to add the event to the shared calendar. There should be a pull-down box where he can choose which calendar to add an event to.0

He puts it directly into the standard calendar app on his phone. Are you saying he should put it into his Google Calendar? If so that must mean the sync between Google Calendar and phone calendar is one-way only, which I didn't realise.0 -
No...When you add an event on the phone there is a drop down that gives you choices of calendars to add the event to.
He has to make sure that the Google calendar is chosen as opposed to say 'My Calendar' or 'Samsung Calendar or whatever. The app will add the event to whichever calendar is chosen.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

The only thing I have found in sharing a google calendar is that if an event goes into her calendar which comes from an external source e.g. a rail trip with an ics file sent to upload then this does not show. All appointments she puts in do show on computer, tablet and phone.0
