Joint account / new house / housing association/ advice needed?

Hello
After years of academic study my partner has got a part time job so for the first time we should be able to afford to save some money and get a joint account.
At present all the bills come out of my bank account and I transfer money to his bank account to cover the bills he pays for and some spending money. I'm not rich - I'm a teacher 3 days a week and we have 2 children a third on the way ( Aug 2nd).
So we need to save for a bigger house - this house which I love is just too small and is in my name.
So what advice can you give?
Shall we try and get a joint account - carry on as we are?
Shall my partner as a first time buyer try and get a mortgage? Or shall we get it together? We both have wills and my mortgage company has on record that he lives here.
Should we look at housing associations?
thanks for reading this
