Card Delivery Address

Hi, I need to open a basic bank account or something that does not require credit score as mine is not great. Problem is I won't be at my registered home address until August and if I provide the address I'm staying in (not registered on it, my nephew's place) the bank probably won't be able to verify it and they won't be able to open an account for me. Is there any way around this or some bank that allows a different address than your registered one for the delivery?

Are you interested in app-only banks? If so you can probably open a Monzo or Starling account.

Use your current address as your main address and change it later when you move.
  • Jonny - I tested that with Santander and they were not able to verify me. Asked for address verification which I only have for my normal home address :/

    agrinnall - sorry

Try Monzo, they’re really lax and from what has been said don’t even check against CIFAS and as long as you don’t opt for an overdraft you should be fine with the minimal ID check they do (you need a driving licence or passport to apply for the account).

I’ve even heard of expats living abroad opening accounts with them and just using a relatives address in the UK without any problem.

Yes it wouldn't work with Santander, that's why they weren't one of the banks I recommended.

Friend of mine had issues with Monzo and submitted a dispute with the FCA over a missing withdrawal worth a few thousand, not got much faith in them. Wish this would work with a high street bank.

Well its not based on the credit score, its based on your credit history and not a made up number.

Sorry for the confusion, I need a debit, not a credit card.

I’m not the greatest fan of Monzo usually, but in their defence that sort of thing can happen with any bank, they all play to the same rule book and this forum has many examples of similar issues with many banks, I’m sure the most recent was with Barclays.
