Stock market announcement today. Rumblings are this will be the announcement of changes to the RM service.0

Royal Mail has said it will introduce a second daily delivery of parcels, to be fully operational by 2023.
"This second delivery will consist of next day parcels, typically purchased online from retailers the evening before, and larger items more appropriate for van delivery. In many cases, the delivery will be less than 24 hours after the order is made," it said in a statement.
Royal Mail's parcels volume has been going up for a number of years as more people shop online, while letters have been declining as more people communicate online.0 -

Interestingly we already have a system of different delivery options at home, not daily though I'm not sure it is intentional. We get letters and small items with the normal post around 12 ish but around once or twice a week a van delivery with parcels (we get quite a few parcels as my sons have items delivered here) .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Already happens. Just not national.
Called the LAT network (late access tracked)
This allows RM to accept parcels later than the traditional network.
In its current form a hub office delivers Tracked items for multiple delivery offices.
If they cant get anyone in,they leave a yellow card to say they have attended and the item is delivered the next day by the usual home office.0 -

Every office is different and have to adapt to changing volumes.
I know of one Edinburgh office who has recruited specific backshift parcel only staff to cope with parcel growth and the delivery posties take more foot delivery to compensate no large parcels.
on the flip side,I know of one Borders office who lost all their Amazon traffic overnight.
Thats a massive challenge as previously Amazon didnt deliver that far with their own couriers.
Transpires Amazon had used parcels with tracking chips to measure delivery routes.0 -
RM is looking to drop a delivery day.
Either Saturday or Monday.
Fairly sure thats unofficially implemented in my street because we never get post on a Saturday. Small cul de sac so we can see who comes up and 9 times out of 10 they don't come up here on a Saturday. I really don't believe that 15 houses get no post on one day a week.
Added to this, our local postman doesn't like our long drive and we think he waits until he has a few days worth of post before bothering to come up and post it through. He used to drive up but I started shutting the gates as I had a trail of oil all up the driveway which could only have been from his vehicle.
Our local office is spectacularly awful though.0 -

They don't have any choice though, do they? The UPU is an international reciprocal arrangement which the Royal Mail has to abide by.ballisticbrian wrote: »Royal Mail changes... but they continue to deliver market place orders the size of a brick from China for a few pence?Philip0 -
