Options for Self contained annexe

I think you have drawn attention to possibly what you wanted it for in the first place and council are not happy.
Councils should be kept on board . I think you have possibly blown any chance of changing it and your hopes of a way round are low to zero.
It's very difficult to understand as you say you "stay over" ??? I think you were hoping for a separate self contained place through the back door which isn't likely
PP conditions were set down and they need to be adhered to0 -
So you are now wanting a "granny annex".
I will be brutally honest. I worked in the public sector and met literally thousands of people during the course of my job. Whether intentionally or not, you seem to alter your stance with every post, now saying you want your m-i-l to live there.
If that is what you wanted you should have applied for pp to convert the barn to self contained living accommodation for a dependent relative. If this was granted it would doubtless have a planning condition attached forbidding its sale separate from the house. It may be possible to obtain retrospective pp for such usage. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
sorry to be confusing. I really am.
The intended use always was and has been to have it as a space for our family to enjoy and be there for guests to stay when we have them (family and friends)
After completion the AirBnB option seemed reasonable (once per month but not over 90 days) so we did that.
I only mentioned the MiL earlier as an example of how it still could be used in the future but that isn't intention now.
The "stay over" part was showing how we have used it and ergo needed/wanted a kitchen for our own use...
I appreciate people may think I'm pulling a fast one, but its not a straight forward thing and to be fair a few replies have been very toxic and pointed so I'll just leave it and enquire elsewhere.
I specifically want to do the right thing and was wondering what options there were rather than immediately doing what's set out.0 -
I think it’s just hard to understand why you or family / friends would want / need a separate kitchen in those circumstances. Or why you would stay over in a converted barn right next to your own house. Why not just go back into the main house to use the main kitchen / your own bedroom?
It just sounds like you are trying to achieve exactly what the planning has specifically prohibited.
A self contained dwelling is a self contained dwelling, whether it’s occupied by you, or your mil, or an Airbnb guest.0 -
its because its a lovely space, thats why, and appreciate people might not believe that, but its a fact. we have also had east dinner there, and probably Christmas will too.
Ancillary use was pointed out that you can do all the things including eat and sleep, and this was what it was, so thats why we did what we did.
The bottom line is, I appreciate this is now against what we are allowed and was asking if there was anything we could do about it bar the removal....0 -
I suppose a camping gas stove to boil a kettle ,and maybe a small microwave to heat things up, if that's all you want to do in it then no problem.
If it's airbnb , then that throws up parking problems and all other things that it entails . as well as noise.
I think as I said before PP is there to stop alternative use creeping in above and beyond what we request.
If all we had to do was flout the rules PP would hardly be necessary .
What about insurance and PL ?
I think you need to put it back as it should be and leave it at that.
Retrospective planning is an option, but can't understand why you didn't apply for it in the first place .
I would think RP is very unlikely because you have now disregarded previous PP stipulations.
Kettle and microwave is all you need not full on kitchen0
