Vermin in council managed attic.. what next.

I have an issue with vermin within the attic that is soley controlled and managed by my local council. None of the residents have access to the attic so there is nothing the residents can do.

Knowing that there is vermin above my privately owned apartment is enough to tick me off, but the thing that is driving me up the wall is the noise the pests create as they shuffle around constantly. In addition, to the noise I've experienced some financial loss, as one out of my two lodgers have left my apartment due to the noise, and I believe the second one will follow suit.

Now I've raised the issue with my council 5-6 weeks ago, and I've heard no change in the noise. So I'm going to assume that they've done nothing.
So I'm wondering now what action can I take against the council as a leaseholder of an apartment within a building they manage.

  • Are you sure it is vermin and not Bats as they can create noise. I take it that the council are the freeholder. If it was me I would check with Environmental health to see who I need to escalate this to if the council are not responding to you. Always put it in writing.

And copy in your local councillor, who may be able to exert some pressure on officials to speed things up.
