DFS sofa problem

Hello
we ordered 2 sets of the same type of sofa from DFS back in January all with electric recliner and in different colors (same range). They were delivered a few weeks ago.
One set was assembled incorrectly and corrected by the service (post sales) manager.
The 2nd sofa set is uncomfortable to use for long periods as one feet does not reach the floor. We checked this between the sofa, and it appears they both have a different type of frame/mechanism. Despite both being of the same style and both electric. This sofa seems to 1 inch higher from floor to arm rest compared to our 1st sofa set. I pointed this out to the service manager who agreed. He took photos and said give him 2 weeks to find out why.
No reply so I visited the store asking for explanation. He just said factory told him the are within spec and no issue. So I explained the situation to the store manager who said he would check.
I paid £100 on credit card and rest is on monthly 4 years interest free. Any advice welcome what are my legal rights. They have stopped selling the same range (or rebadged it as a new style).
thank you.

If the former, I'm not sure what your rights would be. Clearly there would be some tolerance on dimensions but if they have two different constructions it would seem that one of them is not the product you thought you were getting. Is there any sort of product ID or serial number on them? That might help determine if they're different sofas or different versions of the same sofa, perhaps one is the last of one production run and the other the first of the next and in between there were some slight modifications made.0 -
What size sofa did you get? 2str, 3str, 4str etc?
Is the foot in the middle of the sofa? If so then this is normal, it's there as a brace. When you sit on the sofa if it's a particularly wide sofa there is a lot of weakness in the middle and can cause the frame to bow and break. So a slightly smaller foot is fitted so that if the sofa does begin to bow it doesn't bend too far.0 -
Hi sofa in question is (a 3 seater and single chair) are both one inch higher of the ground i.e. feet or frame is positioned to make it higher.
All the sofa comes in part as each recliner seat can to enable quick assembly.
The two sofas - DFS Costello range have different frames - not that it bothers us, it is only one set is 1 inch higher than the other. so anyone sitting on them higher set cannot rest feet flat on the floor. Just to clarify both sets are different colours but ordered at same time.0 -
In which case the "fault" is yours for having legs that are too short
Seriously though, I don't think you have any rights because the sofas aren't faulty (unless you specified they must be exactly the same in size, and even then, one inch is probably an acceptable tolerance of difference) and you're well beyond the period where you can send them back through choice. You're looking for DFS to exercise some goodwill, because I think that's the only option available to you if you want them to act.
The other option is to see if you can adapt the taller items, perhaps by fitting shorter feet to them to take the extra height down a bit.0 -
Sorry to be pedantic but when you say a different colour I presume you mean a different shade of the same colour and not one is green and one is blue?
Your best bet would be to raise it with the DFS team on twitter. It may be that the feet are in spec but the sofa should have come from the same cut of fabric so should not look different at all.0 -
To clarify - we ordered 5 sofas (3+3+1)- one set in beige and another in grey (3+1) for 2 different rooms - all same style. Latter set has a different frame which sits higher up from the floor.
We raised this issue with DFS a few days after delivery as we noticed one was not assembled correctly (not rectified). Still awaiting a reply 2 weeks on, although chased this up with the manager as well.
Don't think the sofas can be adapted to make them close to the floor.0 -
I don't know about that range specifically, but most recliner sofas I've encountered have some means of adjusting the height of the individual feet - it's supposed to allow you to set it so it's level on an uneven floor. If you turn the sofa upside down you'll be able to see what the supporting feet look like, if they're adjustable you will be able to screw them in or out to compensate. You may even be able to remove the feet altogether to reduce the height, but do be careful and make sure that the recliner mechanism still has enough clearance from the floor to operate properly.Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0
