Not sure how seriously to take the research for that article when item 2 in the list about driving a manual car has a picture of an automatic transmission :)

When a footbrake is left applied for a while, the pressure heats up the brake fluid. Repeated instances of this, adds wear to the fluid.
I have never heard this. What "wears out" brake fluid is water - brake fluid is hydrophilic and the absorption of water over time will increase the risk of the brake fluid boiling after repeated heavy braking. Hence most cars require a brake fluid change every 2 years, regardless of mileage.

Keeping your foot on the brake pedal, in a stationary car, will certainly not affect the brake fluid.

yes I am aware it's mirror, signal, manoeuvre. Unless that's changed in 30 years.
When I did my IAM training, I was taught a 6-stage system for approaching any hazards: Course, Mirrors, Signal, Brakes, Gear, Accelerate. Mnemonic was "Can My Safety Be Given Away".

Signalling before moving off or pulling in, if no-one would benefit, is evidence of ineffective (or no) .observation

Not on my 'L' test, which is admitedly over 20 years ago. Mirrors, signal manouvre, with the signal part not being optional as you state. Foolproof, but as you say shows no proof of observation.

Get used to using the handbrake when ever you stop. The last thing you want is an accident or rtc when simply pulling up the handbrake could have avoided the headache.

Also Try to avoid using the term 'gas' its American not English. Its better to use the 'accelerator' or 'throttle' term.
  • It seems this ruling has changed in the 17 years that have passed from being compulsory to optional.
