Storage combi - are they worth it?

Hi

Looking at getting a storage combi (possibly a Viessmann vitodens 111-w) so that we can get rid of the airing cupboard/hot water tank to release some space for an en-suite.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience of a storage combi, if they actually do give a decent benefit over a normal combi boiler without storage tank?

Thank you.

Anyone with any experience (good or bad) of storage combi boilers?

They are ideal if you have large hot water demand such as a power shower as means the warm water reaches you before the boiler has to kick in.

But they do have limited capacity, so the "boost" is provided for a short period of time (depending on your shower's flow rate). The trade-off being that more gas is consumed to keep the storage vessel water heated, though they are quite efficient so lose very little heat.

Muck bulkier to install: when filled they will be twice the weight of a standard boiler, so will need mounting onto very sound masonry.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We considered on when we put a second shower in for the loft.

We looked at a vailant storage combi 937 but in the end went for a more powerful vailant combi without the storage.

From memory prices were similar, but the storage only gave us 8-15 minutes of water and then we were going to struggle.

The more powerful one could keep both showers going with enough to spare.

The concept is good but it took up more space, had more potential issues, and the numbers worked out in favour of a top end regular combi.

So far its working as planned.

That is very helpful ukjoel, thank you. Out of interest which boiler did you go for that is able to run two showers? This is one thing that we are also hoping to be able to achieve.
