Contracts

Hi folks. Am very new to all this forum stuff so apologies if I've messed it up. I took out a contract 16 months ago. The original contract was for 12 months. I've found someone cheaper so I've just tried to cancel the existing contract as I'm 4 months past the finishing date. I've been told by the company that even though it was a 12 month contract originally...as i didn't cancel on the 12 month deadline...the small print says I'm locked in for another 12 months. Is there anything I can do to get out of this treachery from the company in question. Cheers
