Land registry timescales

Hi
Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for the land registry to register a property?
We have just had a variation to the deeds done which is now complete, but now need it registered with the land registry.
Is this process quite straightforward as we are now into the 6th month of a painful sale.
Help much appreciated
