Talktalk phishing

Options
I've had emails on consecutive days supposedly from Talktalk stating that my account has been disabled because of a failed payment. It gives a button to tap to reset the account.

Both emails are excellent copies of official TT correspondence. The second one had the heading in two words, though - Talk Talk. Furthermore, the amount of £4.75 is close to their recently announced rise.

The source was in Japan. I've reported both phishing attempts, of course.

This is so common it's hardly worth mentioning anymore ..

    Just delete and ignore.

For my own curiosity though (My job involves IT security) can you tell me did these emails address you by name, ie "dear pollypenny" , or was it simply "dear customer" ..

This tells me wether this was a mass mail phish, or a targeted one due to them having your details from a databreach

While I wouldn't bother I'd guess it's because TT say:

"We take your security very seriously, so if you've received an email pretending to be from TalkTalk or another business, please let us know."

Doubtful if they'll do anything with it though, it strikes me as being a sop to make customers think they actually are concerned.

I regularly report phishing emails to whoever they refer to. I don 't get repeat emails since I started doing it.

    ^^ Bless :)

    However that is complete coincidence.

No body has any way whatsoever to stop anyone else spoofing their emails ..

As suggested by Agrinnall above - they just like to be seen to be doing 'something'
Your emails reporting this will be landing in a very full, unmonitored mailbox

Yes, referred to me by name and for an amount close to one I'd disputed. No spelling errors. The best I've seen, in fact, so I suspect a data breech. Whether it's a hangover from the previous one and a punt with the price increase I don't know.

Of course, I reported them and deleted them.

Well, it is certain nothing will happen if it is not reported. I have no problem reporting them.

Strange that before I started reporting these emails I did get repeat emails.
