must of been the area you have lived in,or possibly you, as ive lived in and around southend for 30 years and never ever had problems, as for our accents, nothing worse than being judged, maybe that why you never settled in essex, didnt fit in with your attitude.also use to live near your mum along mannersway and the people where fine.
You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on
  • ....but most importantly of all, by moving to Southend you can come and join us Seasiders down Roots Hall and support the greatest football team there ever was!!

4th in the table and hopefully going back up with Tilly & Brush.

yes, it would appear I'm talking gibberish, but it's surely better than Mr Bates and his liquidated club...!! (I'm only kidding!)

As you can guess, I come from the area and it's not that bad, got some decent schools & people etc. Other than Cornwell it's probably like most of England really, identikit town centres and sweary people!!

But it is near London as most others say, not sure if that's good or not, but it does have its advantages.
  • Wow, thanks again for all the replies :D

This sounds ridiculous but the thought of working in London is quite scary!! Biggest place I've ever worked is Leeds :rotfl:

However!! Needs must. We need to be away from here asap really - preferably within 12 months - but we need to sell our own house first which won't be at all easy now :(

We have a week off in late January so we're going to split the week between Southend and Glasgow (our other "4 hour drive away option") - bit of a climate change eh??

    Thanks again all :T

It is definitely warmer most days in Southend than Glasgow!

The young couple next door to us are planning to move, 2-bed 1930s bungalow which has been very well modernised.

This is a little residential street, mainly 1930s bungalows, on the outskirts of Rochford near the airport and about a mile from the other rail line, Southend Victoria to Liverpool Street.

Ours is valued at approx £180K.

There are lots of flats been built recently in and around Rochford. Have a look: http://www.findaproperty.com/areadetails.aspx?edid=00&salerent=0&areaid=2206 or http://www.rightmove.co.uk/action/ShowBranch?ag_u=13577

Would it be possible to let your existing home and rent in Southend for a while? Then you wouldn't be waiting to sell before you can move, and you would have the option of moving to a different area in six months' time is Southend doesn't suit you after all.

I suppose it all depends on how attractive your current home is as a rental property.

I've never been laughed at because I haven't got an Essex accent and I've lived here since 1990.

For jobs, Adecco also have an office in Southend High Street.

I moved here from the Pennines and the weather here is better! My daughter lives on the Wakefield/Leeds border.

    Hi all,

    OH is a postie

There is a big sorting office in Southend but it is rumoured (and may be confirmed) to be moving or even closing. I'm not sure but I work down the same road and heard that Tesco's were looking at the site. I don't read the local paper so don't know for sure but your OH could enquiry about a transfer perhaps to get some options as well.

You sure it's not the old B&Q place that Tesco's is looking at...right next door to the sorting office? :D
