Sold car - DVLA - Advantis

Good afternoon.

August last year I bought a new vehicle from a dealership. I part exchanged my old vehicle as a deposit.

They signed and stamped the V5C, and I signed it too. I handed over logbook, keys etc and posted the V5c to the dvla the next day and that was that. Or so I thought.

Since then I moved address, but yesterday I received a letter from ADVANTIS Credit asking if I lived at this address saying they had some unresolved business regarding the DVLA. A bit concerning as my licence, V5 is up to date and I've always taxed my vehicle.

So I called the DVLA direct today and after a chat with a very unhelpful person I find out my old vehicle is still registered in my name, at my old address. That's all the info she would give me and just kept saying its being dealt with by advantis now.

I told her that I sent my V5 off, and it's not my fault they have lost it. But she insisted it's my fault and I should have followed it up and kept my records up-to-date, but I explained why would I keep records up-to-date of a vehicle I haven't owned for 8 months.

So now I have to write a letter to the DVLA, telling them I haven't owned the vehicle since August. I have picture evidence of the V5 signed and stamped by The Dealership as I took a picture before I sent it in the post.

Any advice on what to do regarding advantis, as I'm reluctant to acknowledge them and just ignore them. As I belive I am not liable for any charges on this vehicle as I do not own it anymore.

Wait to see what the DVLA come back with.

And for future reference (and anyone else selling a vehicle) it's best to notify DVLA online, only takes a couple of minutes and you'll get email confirmation that you are no longer the keeper almost immediately.

The V5C tells you that they will acknowledge change of ownership within a few weeks & if you don't hear anything you should contact them otherwise "...you could be liable for the vehicle and may get a penalty and/or be prosecuted".

In your case I would send the DVLA copies of the evidence you have & hope for the best.
