Triple glazing - is it worth it?

Hi all, after talking to my friend who recently had triple glazing installed she praised it for reducing external noise and keeping her rooms warmer. Has anyone else upgraded and did it actually have any proper benefits? I currently have double glazed windows that do an alright job :)

I had triple glazing installed about 18 months ago as the house we had recently moved into had very old double glazing that just needed replacing. I would say that triple glazing definitely cuts down on noise and increases insulation so the heating needs to run less but not substantially so. My personal opinion would be to consider triple glazing if your double glazing needs replacing anyway, but I wouldn't personally just upgrade from double to triple as the noise reduction and heating savings aren't significant enough on their own to warrant it.

I would day not worth it for warmth but for noise it is better.
Our local Council has decided not to fit triple deeming it as not worth the extra cost.

I had my double glazing replaced with triple a couple of years ago, there wasn't much price difference between the two. I'm not sure it's made any difference &, as Profcool says, I wouldn't replace perfectly good double glazing just to get triple glazing.

We had 10 windows of varying size replaced 2 years ago, and I think we paid £3,600 for the lot, fitted. I'm sure we were offer triple glazing for £400 or £600 more

    Welcome to MSE. :)

Research suggests that removable secondary glazing on windows that are already double glazed can be very effective in noise reduction and in heat retention.

30+yrs ago we had secondary glazing in a house I owned, it was great at noise reducing & cut down on the amount of muck coming though old wooden windows.
if I were looking to replace my windows I would go belt & braces, upvc DG & secondary glazing creating great noise & insulation barrier

we looked into this recently. Our windows still have life in them so no rush to update, but the price difference between double and triple was minimal - about an extra £65 per window. We would definitely consider it when the time comes to replace our windows
