I am looking for a recommendation for an android tablet that is reasonably powerful but cheap with 10inch screen
Budget around £100 or so.
I would have preferred an Ipad but costs are just way too high

Check out the Huawei MediaPad T3 10". It is a little over your budget, but the specs are good.0

I have had the Lenovo Tab 3 8" version for almost 3 years and love it.
Look at Amazon for reviews, more expensive there but reviews are more explicit:

a much bigger hammer.

Could google play be side loaded on to this?
Yes, instructions freely available thanks to the wonders of the internet.
It must be easy.
I did it.
They're a really good tablet and I say this as a £500-odd Samsung S4 tablet owner; the Amazon was bought cheap on one of their offers and is for family use.
Then they can keep off mine.
ETA wait until offers are on, Amazon do them regularly - and if you have a Prime account you might even get one over 5 months interest free.0 -
reading great reviews of this one:
