Cam belt and Water Pump cost?
I've just bought a '57 Volvo S80 (2.4 D) which has now done 112,000 miles. The service book is full of stamps that make sense and don't cause any concern, but it's not clear to me if the cam belt and water pump were done with the last service (there is a hand written note in the service book to this effect, but on phoning the garage, they could not find any evidence it had been done....). So, I thought I would get a quote for a cam belts / water pump change, via Whocanfixmycar.com - I have had 3 quotes back, £307, £216 and £300. I am surprised by the cost, as I was expecting a much higher quote for what I thought was quite labour intensive work...what am I missing, or do these quotes make sense???
Thanks!
Thanks!

The £300+ ones make sense, the £216 I'd be concerned about as being too cheap. I paid £350 for my Mondeo cambelt, tensioner, water pump and auxiliary drive belt. Don't forget the auxiliary drive belts and the cambelt tensioner. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Make sure they all include the pump and tensioners. The £216 guy is doing the job for peanuts - the parts alone are at least half that quote.

It must be a doddle on that engine. Or he's desperate for work.0 -

Thanks - quick update, my local garage (who I trust) have quoted £380 inc the aux belts and tensioners / pump etc. Going to have the work done just in case the note in the service book is bogus!"For every complicated problem, there is always a simple, wrong answer"0 -
I assume this is the D5 engine - I know it well
Suggest you trawl the Volvo forum (or ask there) - IIRC the usual advise is NOT to change the water pump unless it's leaking, and if you do, ONLY fit a genuine Volvo water pump or the OEM equivalent.
There are some reports of aftermarket pumps failing, taking out the cam belt, and killing the engine in the process.
FWIW, my V70 with the same engine is now on 273k miles, still on the original water pump (but the 3rd cambelt!)
Last time I paid my local garage to change mine, they charged £280 + VAT for the whole job (full timing belt kit, labour) - but didn't change the pump.0
