Moan about Currys broken online shopping

Options
TLDR – Currys website purchase, accepted vouchers then website would not allow card payment, vouchers spent, no order done, problems (mostly time scale) getting refund, I am fed up and moaning about it!

Just want to have a moan.

Having new kitchen in a months time. Found white goods at Currys and decided to get them during the easter offers. I work for the council so we get a reward scheme where we can get money off vouchers. So I price up my purchase and buy £1050 e vouchers. After selecting everything on line I had to pay for delivery which put the price to £1051. Typical. So I pay using the gift cards – no problems. I then try to pay the remaining pound using card but the website would not let me use card or paypal. I did not want to spend another £25 in gift cards (BIG MISTAKE!!!!) so I called currys for help and get through to sales. I get told this is a known issue when buying more than three items online. I ask if I can pay the £1 over the phone but they say no as it is an online purchase. They try to put the order through for me but cannot as the vouchers have already been spent. By now the order has ‘timed out’ so I am completely stuck even if I did buy more vouchers I could not use them.

The guy I was speaking to put me through to customer services and tells me after the refund to put the items through two at a time, pay for delivery twice then call customer services again to get the second delivery charge refunded. Customer services said it was a gift card problem and I have to speak to them. They were closed for the bank holiday. Called customer services again and a lovely man said it was nothing to do with gift card team and he would start my refund and it will take 90 minutes. Two hours later I check the gift card balances and the £50 has been refunded but the £1000 gift card still has a balance of £0. Call again get told to wait 24 hours. 24 hours later still nothing on the gift card. Call back Currys, lady fills in a form to be sent to the finance team and this will take 3-5 working days to be looked at. Then she says the terrifying words ‘they may decide to refund you with physical vouchers rather than electronic which will take a further 30 days to be sent to you’.

My kitchen is being installed in 29 days – possibly without the dishwasher, oven, fridge and built in microwave! So I am now in a bit of a panic with 3-5 working days to wait until I can find out what finance are going to do. Currys said they will honour the easter deal I had after the refund so I am just hoping that in a weeks time the refund will be done and then they can have the money back again and this time supply the goods as well! However I know my luck at the moment and I can see me being in the stupid situation of having to fork out another load of money (which I don’t really have) to get the appliances (from another company this time even if they are a bit more expensive) so the kitchen can be installed and then have a £1000 Currys gift card which will need spending.

It is just so frustrating. The order is on their computers, it even has an order number and a delivery date. It is just missing the last £1 to complete it (well £51 now after the partial refund). Very very frustrating. I know I will get the money back but so much unnecessary stress! I wish I had just bought the extra £25 gift card – could have avoided all of this mess. Rant over.

  • I too had the same experience buying with vouchers on April 27th - the process not completing and vouchers emptied with no purchase made. Now, 2 months on, after a lot of perseverance I now have a refund. I eventually emailed the CEO email which I found using 'Google'. This accesses a superior level of customer service. They know there is an issue.
