Affordable summer clothes

Options
Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post in. Apologies in advance.

I'm looking to buy affordable but good-looking pieces of clothing for the summer months.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

All the best,
H

Really depends on what your definition of affordable is.
Mine is the charity shop, my sister-in-law's is Fatface and Jack Wills.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You haven’t said your age, but Sainsbury’s Tu is very popular, so might be worth a look. They are constantly updating their range and everyone I know has at least one item of clothing from them.

This being a money saving site, quite of few of us brag of various finds in charity shops. To get an idea of just how dressy some of these lasses can be (tho not I!), have a dekko at the thread

There is also the Grabbit board currently showing which emporia have sales and discounts running.

Between the two of those, you should be able to the the costs down & enjoy the hunt to boot. Plus the whole earth friendly line of not buying new at all - by buying retro & preloved pieces, you are ecologically sound as well as sharply turned out.

    +1 to this.

On the High Street, you'll find Next, Monsoon, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, New Look, Wallis, River Island, Zara, M&S (although I'm not sure they fit the 'good-looking' box ).
Also Fatface, White Stuff, Gap, Oasis, Phase Eight.
    And Department stores.
As already mentioned - Tu - and the other supermarket chains like Tesco. And George.
    I've sure I've missed some.

It also depends on your age. You might want to look in Bon Marche.

And then there's the online shops like ASOS.

Thank you for everyone's replies. I'm 22, but I'm not that into places like Topshop (sometimes they have clothes that are way too weird). I know that charity shops are always a good idea, but I don't really have that many where I live.

I definitely don't think of Fatface and Jack Wills as affordable. I'll have a look at Sainsbury’s Tu and some of the other you've mentioned. Thank you all for your help!

I missed H&M from my list.
I bought a lovely cord tartan pinafore dress from Topshop in the sale (without trying it on knowing that I could return it) but it was 'tall' and I'm only 5 feet tall.
I ummed and ahhhed about it for quite a while before I decided the proportions were wrong.
    And I'm 65.
I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand..

But we didn't know what you meant by 'affordable'.

    I'll not suggest Joules then.

  • Have a look online at Everything £5. You have to sift through some really weird stuff but they sell off end of line items from all the high street shops. Since I took early retirement 16 months ago I have bought almost solely from them and charity shops - got some great bargains!

I like H&M, Next, Monsoon, Joules and F&F (Tesco). I think Next online sells all of those now, plus loads more brands, so I tend to have a browse there and then try the individual websites to compare prices/discount codes.

I tend to find that the things I spend a bit more on last longer, both in quality and styling - maybe they're a bit more classic so don't date as quickly or it could just be that I'm only willing to spend more on things I know will last years. I do think that one £60 dress is a better buy than six £10 ones unless you're very conscious about wearing the same thing twice in a row!
