Water Filling Up/Leaking Out from External Stop Tap

Hi all,

I notice that the last few days, there has been a lot of water coming out from the external stop !!!!/water meter/whatever it is (I am not sure what it is but the water comes from a metal slab with engraved "WATER" on it).

That WATER SLAB is located outside of my house and there is quite a lot of water coming out from it. Has anyone experienced this?
Do you know what causes the water to fill up on that underground aperture?
How can I fix it?
My house is a terraced house, how do I find out if this external stopcock is just for my property or shared between me and my neighbours?
Are we responsible for fixing that, or the water supplier?

I do really appreciate your help. Thank you very much for reading

Give your local water authority a call in the morning - If it is their responsibility (it usually is), they will come out and fix the fault. As long as they don't have to dig up the pipe, it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to fix.

    Water Company responsibility.
They will either replace the valve head 5 min job or the whole fitting (dig down etc).
If you are on a meter make sure they adjust your bill so that you are not paying for the leaked water.

We have an external stop !!!! in the gravel drive. It has always leaked water, and passers-by have reported it to us and the water company. However, many years ago, it was established that the water was actually ground spring water and not tap water (which would have had chlorine or suchlike in it). We don't take any notice of it now, and it only 'flows' when there has been heavy rain.

Even if you are on a meter it may be located after the leak (my mum's is inside the house but mine is under the pavement) in which case the water won't be registering on your account anyway.
