Is this Medion Dual Core Notebook any good?

Sainsburys are selling a Medion 15.4" Dual Core Notebook MIM 23200 Model MD 96481 with 2GB Ram and 160GB hard drive Built in webcam wireless capability and dual layer DVD rewriter Windows Vista Home Premium. Intel Pentium for the processor.

Was £599 for £399. Sounds very good to me. Will only be used for web access and storing some photos. I don't think I can go wrong, but I'd welcome any comments??

Thank you

Median are the equivalent of Dixons Group in Germany. The specs are good and will more than suffice. Build quality - well it's hard to get a badly built laptop nowadays.

Resale value will be low though.

Looks quite good, but would be ideal if you could post more detailed specs.

This is the 96480 model's specs with a 250Gb hard disk - does the one you're looking at have the same spec except for the hard disk size?
    • Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processor T5250 (1.50Ghz, 2MB L2 Cache, FSB 667)
    • nVidia GeForce 8600M GS dedicated graphics with 256MB GDDR-II RAM
    • 15.4" widescreen 16:10 screen
    • 250GB hard disk drive
    • 2GB (2048MB) DDR2 RAM
    • Dual-Layer DVD ReWriter optical drive
    • Wireless networking - 802.11b/g up to 54MBit/s
    • Digital Freeview TM TV-Tuner with MCE remote control
    • Integrated web-cam
    • Genuine Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium
    Connections: Integrated 4-in-one memory card reader / 4 x USB 2.0 / 1 x DVI-I out / 1 x HDMI / 1 x Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) / 1 x Modem cable port / 1 x Microphone / 1 x Line-In / 1 x S/P-DIF out / 1 x 6 channel audio out (analogue and S/P-DIF) / 1 x Express Card/54

An independent review - at the end it says, "....There are a number of minor niggles with the MD96480, but its benefits - performance and battery life - are excellent for £600."

Where did you find this? Instore? Which city/town? G

OK, I don't think it's the spec I posted - from the related HUKD thread:
I've been to Sainburys to see this laptop and the specs are - Intel Dual core Processor T2310 (1.46 ghz), 2048 ram, 160gb hard disk, onboard graphics and webcam
It's still not bad, but I think you may do better for £399.

I think Welliesorter only wanted us to compare the two - not whether it was the same or not. G
  • There is a good discussion about it on hot deals

Yes. Just thought it was a useful comparison. The Aldi one doesn't look too bad but there's plenty of choice in that price range.
