Increasing credit limit

I do generally feel that we all over think the issue of credit and mortgages. The MA that did my application said they only worry about affordablity not available credit. As soon as you take a mortgage you can apply at that point and get in a mess.
Affordability checks only look at affordability. They have to apply affordability checks, but there is nothing stopping them applying other criteria. If there are signs on your credit file that you are about to enter a debt spiral, then they would not be a responsible lender if they ignored them.
I'm not sure that applying for an increase to your credit limit if you are at a low utilisation would make a difference to a mortgage application, but then I don't understand why having a low utilisation because you've just applied for a credit limit increase would help either.0 -
I had my credit card for 2 years and only applied for an increase in the limit because on ClearScore it showed as a negative and to work on it.
Got the credit increase, no change at all to my ClearScore account as it still shows I need to try and increase my credit limit, even though it's went up twice since I starting using it.
Got approved for a mortgage and it was never discussed during the application.0
