Daughter moan

My wife and I are going on a cruise leaving from a town about 30 miles from where we stay.
We usually leave from another cruise terminal and my daughter drives us to the cruise terminal using my car as there is no direct way to get there but this time this cruise terminal is accessable to us by bus and taxi.
So I can leave my car at a park and ride and get a bus to the town where the cruise is sailing from and then either walk from the bus terminal, about 1.2 miles, or get a taxi.
If we walk cost will be £0 because we get free bus travel. Taxi will only cost about £4 if we decide to get a taxi.
So total cost of getting there and back £8 going by free bus and taxi as against paying for 120 miles of petrol.
Bus only takes about 40 mins, no stops, bus is MegaBus about the time it will take to get there by car.
Daughter is saying that we are spending over £3000 on a cruise and skimping on getting there and we should arrive there in style instead of getting the bus.
I think she just wants me to leave her my car:rotfl:

Not sure that warrants moaning that she's stuck up - maybe she just wants it to be comfortable for you?
Personally I'm with her, for the sake of a few quid and a lot of faffing around.
Does the park and ride not have a charge while you're on your cruise? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Insurance usually covers missed departure due to failure of public transport...it doesn't tend to cover being late if using your own transport. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

I agree with your daughter. £3k on a cruise and getting there by bus and walking? I bet your wifes over the moon, 'oh yes r2015 is taking me on a lovely cruise, the best bit is we're we getting there on a bus and walking the last 2 miles' (with two suitcases, in the rain).
Probably an age thing, old people are generally tight. Just get your daughter to drive youOne man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -

Leave in plenty of time, or even the night before and book a hotel, all part of the holiday. One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -
I would never consider walking with holiday suitcases along a pavement. There may be dog shXt, certainly dog wee, spit, vomit chewing gum all on the pavement, then you may have to cross roads which may have pot holes in them.. taxi for me.0

If your plans suit you and your partner, then do it.
TBH, your daughter's comments don't come across as 'stuck up'.
Personally, I'm not sure that I'd like my car sat in a park and ride carpark whilst I'm away on holiday but that's entirely your choice.
Are you really considering trundling suitcases for 1.2 miles?
If that is OK with you and your partner, that's entirely your choice.0 -
Really? What a great way to start your holiday!! Unless you get a real kick out of saving money then get a taxi. Your daughter is right.0

Take the taxi.
If you are determined to stop your daughter borrowing your car, take half a kilo of wheel nuts.0 -
I'm tight/poor, my thought was "why skimp so much on travel if you're going on a pricey cruise". Seems a bit lop-sided. It's important to save money where you can, on things that you can do without/go without - but, I'd rather arrive at the boat fresh, rather than moaning about fellow bus passengers and any hold ups.0

........and when you dock after your cruise, you'll do this walk/cab & bus thing in reverse as well. No, I'm FIRMLY on the side of your daughter, & I'm betting your wife feels the same.
The trip to your starting point is part of the holiday, it's not "stuck up" to do it in comfort & convenience ('style' will relate to how posh your car is). The equivalent of door to door 'chauffeur' by your own daughter in exchange for the use of your car sounds like a fair swap to me.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
