Hi all
I’ve recently switched to Bulb from So energy, their website says they’re rolling out smart meters in some areas.
For anyone who’s had one already, is it likely to fit in a small-ish space ? Not sure if the washing machine or tumble drier will get in the way. Does it go in front of the gas or electricity meter or is there some flexibility in where it goes ?
Thanks for any experience that can be shared.

Hi,
the old meter will be removed, and smart meter fitted in same place.0 -
Thanks frugalmacdugal. Is the new smart meter a similar size to the old one ? Is there one for gas and one for electricity, or one combined one ? Also, how much room does the installer need as I would potentially need to move the appliances out of the way.0

Separate smart meters for each utility. I believe that they must be 1.2 metres apart in a new installation ,but not sure what happens for a straight swap of existing.
The smart meters I've seen - gas meter was smaller ,leccy meter very slightly larger than meters replaced..0 -
It depends what meters you've already got. Some are bigger and some are smaller.
The installer will need space to access the meter so he can remove the old one and replace it and check the wiring/pipework.
It should be pretty obvious whether stuff has to be moved to ensure that there's sufficient clearance to enoble the work to be carried out.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/smart-meters/article/smart-meters-explained/smart-meter-problems-and-solutions#accessif your meter is in a small cupboard or another confined space, then a technician may struggle to install your smart meter. They may ask you to dismantle the cupboard or move other obstacles to reach the meter.0
