I'm not looking for compensation and say nothing of the sort in my post.
I have an old Blackberry with a swollen battery, but you can remove the battery and keep the phone.
Throwing an entire phone away when it cost hundreds seems a bit much.
Perhaps I pay for a battery but they fit it for free?
My post just asks what is fair.
