Exisiting customer. Bank that will get account open and card to me quickest?

I need a sacrificial current account and want to open one with an existing bank I have an account with.
hopefully this means it shows as open online instantly and the card will follow quickly.
what are peoples experience of doing this with:

Halifax
Lloyds
Nationwide
BoS
TSB
Barclays
First Direct

I have recent experience of opening an account at Santander and they were incredibly fast.

thanks.

I have sacrificed three poor innocent little Lloyds current accounts to get switch bonuses, and one unsuspecting Nationwide one which never saw a single penny.

Account should pop up instantly, assuming you get accepted.

Can't remember which was quickest with the card send, but just a few working days.

    Do they mind?

I know it's probably a silly question . I've just opened and sacrificed my first bank account with my long standing bank. I was thinking of opening another one immediately the switch is complete ready for the next opportunity, but is it likely to cause a problem with my bank? I felt a bit guilty receiving a welcome pack and the card.

Metro Bank will let you open an account and give you your card there and then.
  • Metro Bank will print you a card on the spot.

While this is true (assuming you have easy access to a store), if you read carefully you will see that the OP wishes to open an account at one of the banks where they already have an account, which doesn't include Metro.

Whilst this is true, if you read even more carefully you will see that the OP gives a reason for asking about opening an account at one of the banks where they already have an account: "hopefully this means it shows as open online instantly and the card will follow quickly."

Now the OP may or may not have easy access to a Metro store. If not, they can simply ignore the two posts as irrelevant. But it seems perfectly reasonable to suggest an alternative approach that the OP may well not have considered and that might provide an attractive solution.
  • So, Pfpf, you mean you are opening an account for the purposes of switching to another to get a bonus? This is very clever. I have been meaning to open an account for these purposes but hadn't thought of opening one with a bank I already have an account with. Ingenious!

Some do mind, others don't (yet?). For example, one of the challenger banks won't let you open another account for 12 months if they've 'caught' you using them for a donor account.

Open an account with Monzo, you get the account details instantly and if you open it on a working day the card usually arrives next working day.
