Cheap gas, any catch?
Options
Having rented a largish single glazed cottage, my energy hunting focuses solely on gas unit price, as I'm up at the 55-60,000 kWh per year level. Standing charges are almost irrelevant as they're swamped by the consumption figure.
I switched to Pure Planet towards the end of last year, as they seemed to have the lowest gas unit rate. It went up shortly afterwards to 3.381p. They're great and I have no great desire to leave.
However, I was dabbling with comparison sites yesterday and stumbled upon an SSE U switch tariff with gas at 2.499p. That's a massive reduction that would save me £00s over a year. Have I read that right? Are there any catches I'm missing? And does anyone have any idea how long that tariff is available?

The "catch" for most users, is the very high standing charge(in my region 42.25p/day!!) - but in your case ,its not very important, so looks good. Even with the high s/c ,it would save me a bit -but not enuf to cover the early leaver penalty.0

Switching to this tariff means that you’re agreeing to have a smart meter installed in your property by SSE.0

Do they replace both gas & electric meters with smart ones? Are SSE fitting SMETS2? What in home display do SSE provide?0 -
Well the switch to SSE is underway, but a stumbling start. Email received with a link to set up an account password that results in an "Ooops, something's gone wrong" page :-(.
On a positive note, their Twitter team suggest that they'll be fitting SMETS2 meters.0
