Acer Chromebook, is it slowing down or what?

My Acer Chromebook is less than a year old (I think) and there are times when I think there is a problem as it is unresponsive. My wireless mouse is about five yrs old, so it could be that (batts ok), I do tend to use the chromebook like my old "proper" laptop, and maybe chromebooks aren't up to it?. Then there is the internet speed/connection. There have been times when in the middle of something, it crashed and when started up, a box states, "because it closed down etc, do you want to carry on or new page?".

So, should I do a factory reset, I think they call it a powerwash.

    I bought an Acer CB3-131 Chromebook a couple of years ago when everywhere was flogged them for less than £150.

    It's pretty nippy, but I think it does suffer a bit from only have 2GBytes of RAM.

    I don't recall it ever crashing.

    Have you tried logging in as guest? I'm wondering if you have an extension installed in your account that isn't playing nice.

    You could give powerwash a go. Obviously back up any files you have on the device. You may not have any, given it's cloud-based storage.

    Yes, go for the power wash and see if that makes a difference.

    It also depends on the specs of the Chromebook. Chromebooks don't need as much power as, say, a Windows machine but there is still a variance in the power of each different types, and the ones with Celeron processors and less RAM will obviously be susceptible to some kind of slowdown. But you do have the powerwash feature and as the poster above has said, as your data should be mainly cloud-based then it is easy to do. Just make sure you have backed up any files that you have specifically downloaded onto the device before doing so. Good luck. ;)

    Not at all, but I went to great pains trying to convince you that the underlying hardware was likely of a very low specification and that you could achieve similar results from your existing device, without spending more on an operating system with cheap hardware attached.
    Do you imagine someone who tried so hard to help you, now would be laughing at you??

    Next time perhaps rather than power washing

    Try this first;

    Settings
    Advanced
    Browsing history
    Clear Cached images and files CLEAR DATA

    .

    Thanks. I have now written this down in my "Info Book" so if and when there is a next time, I will follow your advice first. (and noted your name should I wish to get back to you).
