Tyre rotation - do you bother doing it?

Hi;
the reason why tyres are rotated is front wheeled drive cars have 'toe in' and 'camber' this wears the driven tyres more on the outside edge at a greater rate ,thus puting them on rear will make them last longer:j
If your 'toe in' and 'camber' is set correctly your tyre should wear evenly across the tread regardless of where it is on the car.0 -

The only advantage to this is you have better traction when starting out or if you get caught in a snowbank. This will cause problems when handling at speed however. You will never see a Quebecer or Albertan with two snow tyres.0 -
What a silly thread. The only reason that your tyres would wear unevenly along the tread is if the car's geometry was incorrect, or your tyres were inflated incorrectly. If your tyres exhibit these conditions, then go and get it sorted please.
As for the tread on the back/front issue, the tyres with the most grip and best tread should be on the back of the car, not the front. This is true regardless of which wheels are driven. Anyone can correct understeer, it needs absolutely no training whatsoever. Few people have experienced oversteer and even fewer people know how to counter it.
The only reason you should be rotating tyres is if the front tyres have much more tread than the rear tyres. Anything else is just masking a problem.0 -

Tell that to the boyracers understeering the edges off the tyres of their corsas in 3,000 miles.
I rotate on my AWD car as you are supposed to try and keep similar tread depths when dealing the extra diffs.0 -
I've found using the engine to rotate the tyres works quite well.Happy chappy0
