Credit score

Options
Hi All and Happy Easter!

I have a DMP which I am paying off next week.
My credit score is 994, will I be able to apply for a credit card or phone contract?

Thanks in advance

  • Probably if you want to.

Although your score means nothing as lenders do not see, care or use it in lending decisions.

Use an eligibility checker to see what cards you might qualify for.

    I’d ignore that score!

You many have difficulties getting credit after paying it off. You must have arranged to pay over your credit file.

As suggested try an eligibility checker. I’m surprised you want to jump back into credit after this.

Hi Sunderland1, and a happy Easter to you too!
    1. Have you got any defaults, Arrangement to Pay markers, or any other negative indicators in any of your three credit reports?
    2. As the others say, you can ignore your credit score as lenders neither nor see it

  • And just in case it helps, there is at least one other user of this forum on a DMP who has been applying for, getting and using credit products during the course of their DMP - which is currently only 50 - 75% paid off.

If anyone was still tempted to argue credit scores have meaning, this thread of all the others must be the killer - in a DMP (so logically has a history of borrowing money and not being able to pay it back for whatever reason - not passing judgement OP, just stating a fact) and scored 994 / 999 - just a fraction under a "perfect" score - what a farce!

OP, get a basic credit builder card like Vanquish or Capital One or Aqua (see what the eligibility check suggests) and use it properly - buy normal monthly stuff like food and pay off in full by direct debit every month and your credit history (what lenders actually use, not the fictional score), will improve over time and you will eventually get into the mainstream credit lending

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hi and thanks for the response
Have nothing indicated on the report other than the score.
I have aplied for a Vanquis card and await their response.

    Thanks
