Private sellers slow to send items AND leave feedback

Just started buying from private sellers on Ebay for the first time in a few years and they seem to be a lot slower than they used to be or have I just been unlucky :(

Years ago I got feedback as soon as I paid and the item was generally dispatched to me within 24 hours, now it seems that they wait a few days (at least) before sending stuff and don't leave feedback until the buyer has done.

Maybe I am just out of touch now but it makes me reluctant to start selling stuff myself :o

  • I would check what there dispatch information says, if they say for example choose that they dispatch within two working days than they have no need to go straight out and post it to you.

Personally I think it just depends who you buy from. As long as they are dispatching according to the estimates on eBay then they are doing nothing wrong.

For me I leave feedback as soon as an item has been paid and I dispatch it, seems to be the other way around for me, even when the buyer has received their item it takes forever to get my feedback from them.

People leave feedback these days? Only for very good or in any way bad. Which is how is should be. If feedback is expected the system is broken.

I think sellers have been bitten by too many late delivery marks due to no fault on their part they now extend those estimated delivery times.

Its a pain when you want something quickly because there is a high probability that will will arrive quickly, but the seller may have a 3 day postage window.

Bought stuff that said 5 days and it arrived the next day or within 2 days.

Notice a quite a few now pushing estimates upto 7 days+, which is starting to border on are they really UK based or non UK sellers who will say wait a few more days where its likely to arrive.

A high percentage of my purchases from Chinese sellers have been within 14 days, some as little as 7. Thats with standard postage not upgraded postage.

  • I have found both business sellers and private sellers to be pretty rubbish with their dispatch times.
Some private sellers seem to just outright lie, had one seller who told me they would dispatch item next day but ended up dispatching it a whole week later.

The fastest dispatch I recently experienced was from a seller who registered in China. Got the item in two days, product was probably based in UK. As a seller I always dispatch same day or next day, and I still get marked down from impatient buyers.

A week, thats nothing. Some years back I purchased something late Nov / Early Dec?

I was not in a rush for it so didn't contact the seller for well over a week, then the sorry i forgot, then more excuses, partner was supposed to post it and forgot. Then they were ill.. Not ill enough to buy large items and go and collect them. Did they forget you could see everything someone did back then?

After Xmas i had enough and opened a case, they promised delivery again. Nothing arrived. Case won in my favour. Paypal refund.

After Paypal refund they posted the item.... It was loose in a bin bag, guy delivering it apoligised but thats how it was received. Opened it up and the packaging was idea, it was in a disgusting condition. I chucked in the bag and threw it behind the shed and its still there now.

They didnt respond when i said to arrange to have their item collected.

    Possibly one of the worst?

Or was it the guy who sold me an electrical item he had abused and forgot to mention. I receive it and it doesnt work. Tried everything but no. £200 so not a throw away item. Contact him and he replies try this and that etc... Done that it doesnt work. Then he wants pictures... NO idea what a picture is going to show.. Well thanks to great cameras on Samsung phones i spotted why it was not working. Shorted out because he used something on it and failed to mention.

He must have thought he had removed all traces of the abuse he did to it, but the camera found some.

Then he stopped responding... Another case opened, on the last day he did what he had to. Send postage label on the last day, refunded on the last day. Childish games.. So i left him appropriate feedback.. :)

Fairly new seller so that may have hit him hard. Dont tell lies and then remember when i show the evidence.

Not so much the dispatch information but the expected delivery dates have been way out and one seller has even contacted me to say he will dispatch "tomorrow" but it didn't show on the system until 3 days later and now because of the holiday weekend the expected delivery date has moved from the original 18th - 20th backed up to 24th - 26th :(

Another seller shows no sign of sending me anything as yet 4 days after the auction closed.

The delivery estimate cannot change after auction, it all depends on when buyer pays and based on the sellers dispatch time. Sellers cannot change that.

IN England there was no post on Good Friday nor will there be any tomorrow. If you are in a different part of the UK then it might be different , but the delivery estimate will be based on seller location, not yours.

Private sellers are exactly private sellers. As a private seller I sell things that are too good (or sometimes not good enough) to go to a charity shop and the ones which I don't need/don't like any more. I have life and a full-time job besides eBay. Sometimes I work away from home and quite often abroad for a few days. I simply can't rush back to post something :rotfl:

I also believe that the buyer should leave feedback first to say "thank you" and to confirm that the item has arrived all safe and sound rather than another way round.
