new meter to be fitted...

Hello folks, new member here, trust you`ll be gentle with me! Reference onstream gas meters, I note that members have mentioned recertification as the reason for installing new meters but we were told 4 years ago that we had to have a new meter fitted, not onstream, as an ongoing programme! NONE of my neighbours had one fitted? Our bills increased significantly after installation, we complained to no avail, so we cut down and installed more insulation. We are now told that we have to have an onstream meter fitted, surprise surprise, none of my neighbours are having one. Are we being singled out? Can`t think why. But apprehensive re` bigger bills. If we change suppliers do we still have to have an `onstream` meter?
Current meter is digital & half the size of previous one.
Onstream is a National Grid company here and they look after the metering regardless of your supplier. Meters are replaced depending on their type e.g. your neighbours may have had a different type of meter that had already been replaced.
Do you still have your bills from when you had your previous meter? There may have been a mix up if one was an imperial meter and the replacement one was a metric meter. Check what you were charged for cu Ft or cu M on both old and new bills. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It might depend on your supplier - different compaines use different meter operators (MAP/MAM/MOP etc), and yours are changing now.
I did hear one theory that the new MOPs would recieve more cash once 'their' meter was in the porperty. Not sure about ele, but for gas all meters were owned by National Grid (Transco) Metering, and only once one of the new companies put a meter in would they become the MOP.
As such, they would want to swap the meters over, even if NGM had recently put one in.0 -
Elec side is split into MOP's defined by their original PES region. Although they can supply anywhere now per changes under REMA. Thats came in years ago and to be honest, not that much has changed. However, some Suppliers have switched to using 1 trusted agent in as many regions as possible.
Also, some agents have either gone "native" or gone under completely. So, in those cases, mass agent migrations have taken place for Suppliers.
Also, the other big move has been groups buying out other MOP/MAM's so they stay in their original region but belong to 1 group. This has caused lots of problems in elec as some agents have used the same system and caused lots of data issues as well as fitting meters that are not supported in the region fitted.
You can never rule out the numpty factor!
Onstream affected elec completely differently from what I remember.
Agree with Expresso, this is comon when meters are updated as the calc is different. See below thread already about this:
