Today, Microsoft have released a free version of their Microsoft Office Accounting 2008 Professional in a bid to take on Sage.
Called Ms Office Accounting 2008 Express, it has a few less features than the Pro versions but is ideal for small businesses. The thinking behind it being that many small businesses just fire up Excel to do their accounts so there was no point trying to charge so give them a "Lite" version and if they like it, they may upgrade to the pro.
It's not a bad package.

Thanks for the information, I have been waiting for this. I currently use XLAC which is a really good spreadsheet created my someone on MSE, but it looks like he will only be continuing for another year, which is a shame as one of the reports is your Self Assesement SA100. So my year end was easy.
I have emailed MS Accountancy Express to see if they do an SA100 report, have you downloaded it and seen one?

Not got that deep into it yet - just having a quick look and "playing".0
