For some moneysaving I went for cheaper options for the toilet pan and hand basin, as I thought as long as the design was OK a piece of ceramic is a piece of ceramic.

For things like showers that are more complicated it made more sense to spend a bit more.

It can be hit & miss with ceramics too. I bought an unbranded cloakroom basin at a very reasonable price and it still looks good/ more expensive than it was. However, I noticed at the weekend that a cheap toilet a relative bought around the same time now has glazing problems.

The labour in changing either would be much more than the price difference with a trusted brand for those who don't do their own plumbing.
  • We're having our bathroom done and we wanted to go for mid range, good quality products that will hopefully last with no problems for years. So we shopped around like for like to see where we can get it for the best price.

We ordered an Ideal Standard reinforced shower bath with front panel and glass screen, Grohe mixer basin tap and Gerberit bath waste from Trading Depot.
Roca basin with full pedestal that we got on a bargain from our local James Hargreaves shop.
Grohe rimless toilet, cistern and seat from Victorian Plumbing.
    Towel radiator from QS Supplies.
Grohe bath mixer tap and bathroom accessories from Builder Depot.
Aqualisa thermostatic mixer rainfall and handheld shower from Plumbworld when it was on offer.
