I have a Barclaycard and I recently requested a balance transfer at the rate of 6.9% life. I received an email from BCard notifying me that my balance tramsfer request has been rejected. I have never missed any payments and well below my credit limit with BCard. So I have sent them an email again and received the following response:-
Thank you for your e-mail.
I am sorry that your recent request for a balance transfer was refused.
May I explain that our decision has been reached taking into account the conduct of your account. This is based upon all
aspects of your account such as how much credit you presently have, searches made by other credit providers, your address etc. Therefore,
I regret that I cannot give you a specific reason why your request was not granted.
However, if you would like to re-apply in a few months time, we will be happy to review the situation again.
We hope that you will understand our reasons and obligations to a responsible lending policy.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
I must also advise you that if we do not hear from you within eight weeks of the date of this e-mail, we will assume that your complaint
is resolved.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Kindest regardsI dont have any problems with my credit report and I was not asking for a limit increase, it was just a balance transfer on my existing limit. Has anyone else had this problem with Barclaycard. Any idea what can I do to pursue Barclaycard to accept the balance transfer?
Thanks in advance

There have been a few of us on this board with the same problem, can't find the threads but they were within the last couple of months.
I always conducted my account well, no late payments. I had a credit limit of £5.5k with no balance. When I asked to do a BT they said this was not available to me at this time but I could have cash/purchases up to the full credit limit! I really can't see what the difference is between running up a debt in cash or on a BT but they wouldn't budge.
I promptly cancelled the card which was a shame as I had been a customer for several years.:mad:Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I know they take into account the generic credit score from Equifax and their own internal score. I had never missed a payment but because I had quite a few searches in a short space of time this lowered by generic score. Now BC offer me bt at 0% and 6.9% and I can withdraw cash up to my credit limit. Also without asking they incresed my BC.
I could have been childish and closed the account but pleased I did nothing and accepted the situation as it was then.0 -
