Prepayment cc for online payments

I've been looking at AliExpress (instead of ebay/amazon) as it works out its about 20% cheaper for some bits for a project at home (my last "project" was over budget according to my wife :rotfl: )

I'm used to PayPal and (mostly) trust it but I don't want to register my credit/debit/bank details with AliExpress as I've seen a few posts saying they've been scammed. Also having been scammed before I want to "try" to limit any possible damage. So a prepayment card seems a good idea (no one can take more than what's on the card (yes?)) I also plan to give the card to my son next year as he's starting secondary school...

Can anyone suggest a card that would suit my needs? Ive been looking at the Revolut card. Any advice?

Many thanks.

  • Quite a few sellers on AliExpress have Paypal as one of their payment methods. There is a small charge, by AliExpress, to use Paypal but your card details are not provided to AliExpress using that payment.
I've used AliExpress many times, not using Paypal, and fortunately had no problems being "scammed". There's the option not to save card details anyway.
Sorry, can't answer your specific question though in spite of the above ramble!
  • I can see what you looking for - however, there is no such thing as a prepayment credit card.

Also, giving your card to somebody else to use will breach its terms and conditions unless I'm much mistaken.

I have a CaxtonFX card and for a £5 fee I can add another family member to get them a card. Not sure if any other similar providers offer this option.

The Nationwide FlexOne account for 11-17 year olds (with debit card) would likely be the best option for your son.

  • Your right and TBH I never gave it any thought. Debit and Credit cards are as different as chalk and cheese. :o

I never thihght about it breaking the terms and conditions too... Blimey shows how bad I'd thought this out.

Thanks for putting me straight. I'll look into the account for my son later today and see what options I have.

    Many thanks!
