Fertility clinic advice - Care or Nurture?

Thankfully we are only off to Florida so no need for malaria pills. Florida was listed an 'very low risk' on the website the IVF clinic sent me but when we spoke to the consultant yesterday he checked another website and that said no zika! He said he would be happy to treat us without waiting for the zika test which has to be 3 months after returning from the holiday so we are pleased about that! I'm not sure I would have taken the news of a further wait well, although I know I need to prepare myself that delays can happen at any stage.
The consultation went well... I think? Not further problems were discovered. Apparently I have a good ovarian reserve. The Dr recommended my husband having some sperm tests so they can hopefully find some sperm and freeze it. He said once they have done this and are able to see if they can find any sperm to freeze and the quality of them we will know better what our chances are.
The treatment he has suggested is ICSI. He said they would try with with a fresh sample, frozen samples as back ups, then surgical removal if those two do not provide sufficient sperm, and the final option would be donor sperm.
We are just waiting for the costs estimates to be sent through.
He recommended that my husband has a test to check if he is a carrier for cystic fibrosis and blood tests to check for HIV etc. We are going to speak to our doctor and see if we are able to get the blood tests on the NHS at all.0 -
Hi, @PrettyKittyKat.
Have just saw your thread. I'm sorry you have to pass IVF to conceive. I can relate. I cannot carry pregnancies, so years ago my doctor told me we'd have to turn to surrogacy if we wanted kids. Currently in the process. I Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck on your way. May God bless you with a little one as soon as possible, I'm keeping you in my thoughts.0 -

Thank you so much for your kind words. I wish you all the luck with your journey to motherhood also0 -
Good luck with your treatment- you might want to read “It Starts With The Egg”- it has a lot of useful advice to get yourself into the best condition for treatment. I had one fresh ICSI cycle that ended in a chemical, then read the book and implemented some changes. Second fresh ICSI cycle resulted in my 17 month old.
In the meantime enjoy your holiday!0 -

Thank you for the recommendation! I have been thinking about looking into changes we needed to make but the thought of trawling through various website and forums to figure out what actually works and is worthwhile was overwhelming.... so this book sounds exactly what I need!0 -
For those of you that have been through treatment privately, did you have the cystic fibrosis test done under the NHS or did you pay? (If you needed it).
We require this test and were told in our consultation it was unlikely the nhs would do it but then the follow up letter said to ask the nhs. We need to call this week I think to start enquiring.0 -

Congratulations! My last transfer was ten years ago last Monday and my little four cell frozen embryo is now a very lively nine year old. Having to struggle with fertility problems is totally crap in every way, but I really do appreciate how lucky we are to have our daughter.
Enjoy your teetotal Christmas and think about how very different the next one will be when you are finally a family of three. Magical!0 -
