Hi, I have been waiting to buy a sofa from SCS since just after Xmas. Loads reduced in boxing day sales but not the one I wanted. The shop said wait as always having different sales etc.
Since then they hav had 2 with a 3rd starting tomorrow that says everything reduced but the sofa I want is still the same price as at Xmas. I would add that it is & always has been advised at £439 down from £489 so the shop say it is reduced.
Some other sofas, advertised like this, hav within these sales been reduced further but not mine.
Now I'm guessing it must hav been sold at the full price £489 at some time to b legally reduced to £439 but how can I find this/ challenge this etc to either prove false advertising or at worse basically shame them into giving me further discount?

Ask them?
If the laws the same it only has to be at the higher price in one store.
Then ask yourself- do you really want to buy a sofa from this company.0 -
Sounds like they’re keeping it at that price just to annoy you! Either that or it’s selling in enough volumes at that price that they don’t feel the need to discount.0

Just go to Ikea. Same quality, a third of the price, and no dubious pricing policy to contend with.0

Report them to the Advertising Standards Agency. If the sofa is never on sale at the full price, they are being dishonest about the sale.

Please be aware that ScS operate such that their prices are artificially inflated pre-sale, solely so they can drop the prices of their stock for the sale. They do not sell much if anything at the pre-sale price, and the quality of the sofas they sell is such that they are only worth the sale price, not the pre-sale price. So for example a sofa that is £2000 before the sale and £1500 during the sale is comparable in quality to other sofas that retail at £1500. I hope that makes sense!Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
When I worked in retail we regularly had a half price sale, we called it the £10 off sale as that is what it actually was. Something had a normal price of £100, we upped it to £180 (and sold none) then put it down to £90 in the sale. It took a lot of effort to get customers to buy other better products at roughly the same price over the "half price" ones.0

Is it possible they've done something odd, like listed it... then added it again under a new listing number - and you've bookmarked the original version and they've not removed it from their site?0

My sister and brother-in-law were sat in some furniture store and overheard a discussion between two sales people about an item on which another couple were asking for a bit extra discount.
Reduced from £900 to £450 in the sale. What did it actually cost us? £140

Thanks everyone.
The store say it was sold at the full price of £489 in November. Since then it has been reduced to £439.
When u see an advertised sale that sales everything reduced would u expect, or at least hope everything was reduced by something from the price it has been for over 6months?
I guess this is the crux of my point really, legally it is reduced but it is not specifically reduced in the sale that says everything reduced. Anyway it's a good Friday sale o e day only so going to see if they do anything Easter Sunday or Monday. Failing that going to ask 4 discount.
Thanks again0 -
There is no such thing as a DFS sale, what there is, is a lets pretend because the public is gullible they always fall for it sale.0
