Anyone got any comments on the Ring doorbell as I am looking to purchase one after having a new Composite door with Opaque Glass as we cannot see who is at the door

According to a colleague, if you’re not constantly welded to your mobile “like it’s a third lung” it’s pretty useless. She said that the time she’s got to her phone to view the app whoever it was has given up and gone away.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Got an old tablet or 2 at home? You can use them as a dedicated viewer when someone rings your door bell ( or walks into the the zones you can set up even if they don’t ring the bell). Have one by the bedside so you don’t have to get out of bed to see who is at the door and ignore the salesmen/bible pushers etc
No need to have it on your phone or use it when your away from your home or talk to anyone on it if you don’t want to. Just use it as a security viewer that records as well.0 -
I have the video doorbell 2 and if you are relying on it to notify you on your phone instantly the caller pushes the doorbell you'll be disappointed.
Tbh it's a bit hit and miss, there have been occasions when I'm out that someone's rang the bell, i've had a notification, answered and spoken to the caller, worked brilliant. Other times by the time I get the notification they've gone so as said, hit and miss, you certainly cannot rely on it solely via your phone and I have a very good internet connection/speed.
That said, if you also have a Ring wireless chime linked to it this will sound instantly the bell is pushed so if you are home you will hear it just like any normal doorbell.
Although not 100% reliable I don't regret buying it. It records to the cloud all movement detected whether the bell is pushed or not and for an annual subscription this is stored for 30 days. You can also download any selected clip and save to your PC or phone.
For me it came in really handy recently. I ordered an item and the delivery driver forged my signature as receiving the goods in satisfactory condition. I was able to prove by going back to the day in question and viewing the video clip that the courier did not ring or knock, left the parcel in the porch and then left without even speaking to me. Came in very useful.
In summary, not as good as the TV ads claim, but still a useful bit of kit. I also have the Ring Floodlight Cam and that's pretty good too.0 -

Just because its a composite does not prevent you from fitting a <£5 spy hole viewer.0

We have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro ... a fair bit of messing about to fit it because it requires non-standard voltage (non-standard for UK mains doorbells) and whilst they supply a transformer with the UK kit, it’s of the type that is ‘supposed’ to be installed in the consumer unit. So it’s not exactly a suitable DIY kit.
But that said, we are very pleased with it. Video quality is excellent and it does record activity to a cloud based server (you have to pay extra for that though). If you are in a good 4G signal area then the app works fine remotely but poor signal area and you’ll struggle to get connected if someone rings the bell.
Quite like the motion detection on it too, which for us will activate if someone approaches the house. Although if you live overlooking a busy street it wouldn’t be much use.
I used a recording as evidence that an Amazon driver had pilfered a parcel ... he should have delivered two items but only delivered one, I asked him about the other and he denied having it, yet it subsequently showed up on Amazon tracking as having been ‘handed to the customer’ ... useful to prove to Amazon I hadn’t received it and they sent another.
No idea about people having their Ring bells stolen but certainly with the Pro you’d have to have the special screwdriver to take it off.
My kit came with a chime but I installed 4 in total and you can program them to chime on doorbell and/or motion independently, and also have a time schedule for the motion so it won’t wake you up in the night if a fox or such passes in front.
Like ours. No regrets having it.3.6kWp Solar PV with 14kWh battery storage - Octopus Go Faster 5h & Octopus Gas Tracker tariffs.

mine is useless as it's too far from my router and house has very thick walls.
The idea is good in theory but for me, in practice a waste of money0 -
