As a business seller, if someone has change of mind do I need to pay return

Hi all.

So someone purchased an expensive article of clothing from me on eBay, with tags attached. I sent it via fully insured courier (DPD). Delivered fine following day. Buyer said they really liked it but it's just a little too small. We've agreed for return for full refund. Sadly I can't give them a replacement in bigger size.

Anyway, do I have to pay the return courier cost or is that up to them? I normally sell electronics and not clothes so not sure where I stand. I don't mind paying but not sure when it comes to clothes.

Normally buyer pays - but you should have a return policy that states that on ebay to protect yourself.

The answer if someone has a change of mind do you need to refund is no.
In the case mentioned it depends why the item is too small. If it is a sized item and the size is not the same (eg 34 inch waist trousers that are 32 inch waist) then it is the seller's responsibility as the item is not as described. This would apply even if it was a manufacturer error in the labelling.

Guess that gets a bit difficult since manufacturer's sizing can be very strange. For instance, I'm a 32'' waist but have received 30'' which was too big, and my current favourite Diesel jeans are 34'' but are realistically more a 32. GAP (I like their jeans) in 32'' and right on the money :eek:

However, in this instance, buyer has mentioned the item is just a little too snug and would like to return it. Since I don't want negative feedback or any abuse, I've organised UPS to collect on Tuesday from them which has cost me about £8. I just pray the tags are still intact so I can resell it.

I sold some expensive jeans a while back listed with no returns,buyer complained they were too small......did I refund.....did I hell
They were sold with tags which included loads of pictures the buyer left negative feedback stating they were wrong size so I politely replied back perhaps they needed a new tape measure......eBay removed the negative feedback

OP perhaps the buyer has found them cheaper elsewhere;)

If buyer had opened an SNAD claim then you couldn't have refused the return, likewise if you are operating as a business and seller wished to return an item at their own cost for any reason, then you could not refuse it.

Sizing is a minefield anyway. I know what size waist I need to buy in stores I buy from. There is about 3 inches variable between stores so some would be right and others not so. I know M&S have recently updated their waist measurements on some men's trousers, with quite a few ranges going up a couple of inches.

It's one of the many reasons why I'd never retail clothing!

I'm a biz seller so sadly can't really just reply to 'no you can't return that.' Buyer has sent a nice message tho to say that the article of clothing has tags still attached and will leave good feedback once they're refunded.

I agree though, selling clothes is a different ball game to what I generally sell (electronics). Not just that, fees are ridiculous for that one item (over 10% as a biz seller). Typically 6% with electronics, though for desktops and laptops it used to be capped at £20 which then became £24. Now no cap at 6%. :mad:
