Bought used car 26 days ago, gearbox oil leakage

Hello,
Bought a Vauxhall Astra around 26 days ago from a dealership for £6500. Paid £6300 by debit cars and £200 by credit card. The car had it’s MOT done on the same day of the purchase.

Took the car for its service today and found out there is gearbox oil leakage. The garage that did the service is ATS euromaster.

Need some help now, should I take the car to another garage and pay for a check up again? If the seller doesnt agree with repairing the car, do I have any rights?

How much oil did the garage need to put back into the gearbox? Was it just weeping from the gasket?
  • They just said there is oil leakage in the gearbox. Even if the leakage is small, do I have to fix it or it’s the dealership’s job?

If they didn’t have to put any oil back in during the service then it sound like a bit of weeping you find at gaskets in older cars rather than a ‘leak’. I am guessing it’s not dropping oil on your drive If this is the case, then it doesn’t sound like anything needs fixing. Probably not even worth using a stopleak product or different grade oil.

What are the terms of your warranty? Have you checked?

    1. Are you sure there is a fault?
    2. Is the fault to be expected given the age and mileage of the car?
    3. If there is a fault and the fault is unexpected for the age & mileage, then the Consumer Rights Act 2105 makes it the dealer's responsibility to fix the car.

You might have to do some persuading to get them to agree that there is a fault and that the fault is unexpected for the age & mileage of the car.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
